Accor · Group-wide plastics phase-out
How do thousands of hotels stop buying the same things at once?
Andrew's employment, 2022 to 2023 · not an Enzyme engagement
- Employer
- Accor.
- Role
- Global Sustainability Project Director.
- Scope
- The phase-out of single-use plastics across the group's hotels, and circular supplier contracts.
The system
A commitment made at group level that had to become a purchasing decision in thousands of hotels, across dozens of product categories, hundreds of suppliers and every brand standard in between. The lever was procurement; the test was adoption.
Andrew's role
Directing the programme from the procurement side: which categories to remove, what to specify instead, how suppliers were contracted for circularity, and how adoption was measured property by property.
What it produced
Forty-six categories of single-use plastics removed from the group's purchasing, with programme adoption measured at 84 per cent across the group's hotels, and the programme recognised with the Global Hospitality Awards' Best Sustainable Action in 2022. Figures from the programme's internal reporting at the time.
What is not disclosed
Supplier names, contract terms and property-level figures. The programme and its awards belong to Accor; this page records Andrew's role in it.
